We have been asked as Part of our Studio 1 projects to keep a log of achievements and issues during the process of our group assessment.

I am one of the level designers for the project.

The project is called Colony 7 the basic premise is as follows:

Concept Theme

Sci-fi adventure game with Rogue-like attributes.

Colony 7 is a 3-D Third Person Adventure, Exploration game with Rogue-like and Survival elements. A colonizing ship is sent to a distant planet and tasked with gathering resources in order to populate the planet. The journey begins when the colonists take their first steps onto the wondrous new land and build their homes but they are not alone… Colony 7 is also inhabited by hostile humanoids and many other dangers.

My first task is to create all the characters for the project. First things was to decide the scale which we were using. The programmers want to use a grid base system of 6.4 pixels. Characters, models and modular level pieces are to be build to 64 x 64 x 64 pixels. This is to help to keep all pieces and characters snapping to the grid. We are using Magica Voxel as this program suits the aesthetics we are looking for.

4 Types of characters within the project: The main player characters (Male and Female), Enemies (6 Types), Friendly inhabitants (2 types) and Colonists (4 types).

As this project is set on an alien planet i had to be creative with the enemies. This proved

a test to my creativity.

Examples of enemy characters:

Next Friendly inhabitants:

Colonists:

and Finally a choice of Male or Female Player Characters:

Coming up with characters that fit the theme was the most challenging issue to my current job. i discussed ideas with my team mates and drew inspiration for some characters from them. All in all the team and i are quite happy with the results.

My next job is adding animations to all the characters.
